I was standing in the mattress section of a Kelowna, BC furniture store talking with the owner. This conversation would launch my career in real estate 12 years later.
That day in the furniture store Doug, the owner, was explaining the benefits of a particular mattress so I would be well informed for the upcoming radio on location broadcast that I would be hosting at his store. I was listening carefully, taking in the features and benefits of this mattress, until I wasn’t. Looking over his shoulder toward the front desk I saw her walk out of an office to the front counter. Kelly, his daughter, didn’t know it, but she had just captured my heart.
I was 30 years old, and this was the beginning of the next chapter of my life.
I was navigating major life changes. I had recently left a Toronto radio station, gone through a divorce, and moved to Kelowna for a fresh start. Meeting Kelly brought a new sense of purpose. Together, we discovered a shared passion for real estate, beginning with our first home on Moubray Drive. We turned its basement into an apartment for ourselves, renovated the upstairs for tenants, and launched what would become a lifelong love of buying, renovating, and selling homes.
My radio career took us to Vernon, BC, where we bought, fixed up, and sold several homes. We learned a lot about the buying and selling process and what it takes to make a house into a home. After seven years and many moves, my radio job came to an end when the station changed owners. That’s when I knew it was time for a new chapter.
In 2003, we moved across the country to Peterborough, ON, Kelly’s hometown, with our two young sons, Jordon (5) and James (2). We sold our house in BC and bought a new one in Peterborough without ever seeing it in person—a big leap of faith! Thankfully, it turned out to be a great home, and we got to work renovating it, too. From installing hardwood floors to opening up the kitchen, we turned it into a space we loved.
During this time, I realized how much I wanted to work in real estate. After years of buying, selling, and renovating homes, I knew I could help others do the same. In 2006, I became a licensed REALTOR® and began helping people find homes that fit their needs and dreams.
Since then, I’ve worked with all kinds of clients, including first-time buyers, investors, and families looking to downsize. I’ve helped people buy and sell single-family homes, condos, waterfront properties, and even farms. My goal is always the same: to make the process as smooth and stress-free as possible.
Now that our boys are grown and on their own, Kelly and I are empty nesters. This has given me a special connection to clients in the same stage of life. I know how important it is to make a big move feel simple and exciting. That’s why I created my Smooth Transition Solution, a 5-step plan to help empty nesters move to their next chapter with ease.
From that chance meeting in the furniture store to now, my life has been all about building connections and creating homes. I’m Geoff White, REALTOR®, and I’m here to help you move to your next chapter.
